Meet Adam Oestman, a Professional Engineer based in our Jacksonville office. Since joining Alliant in 2021, Adam has played a key role in some of our most impactful projects across the Southeast. Beyond his technical contributions, Adam has helped shape the collaborative and driven culture that defines our Jacksonville team.
We sat down with Adam to learn more about his passion for engineering, the projects that have inspired him, and what being an employee-owner means to him.
Why did you choose engineering as a career, Adam?
I’m originally from Mariestad, Sweden, a charming town in southern Sweden known for its preserved 18th- and 19th-century architecture. It was a great place to grow up and sparked my appreciation for thoughtful design and community spaces. I moved to the U.S. to pursue my engineering degree at Murray State University in Kentucky. I’ve always known I wanted to be an engineer because I care deeply about the community. Engineering allows me to create spaces that bring people together and improve lives.
What’s a project that stands out to you?
Shadow Crest at Rolling Hills will always stand out to me. It was the first project I designed after joining Alliant in 2021, and I’ve had the chance to see it evolve from concept to completion. We created a vibrant new community. The development included a pool, gym, tennis courts, playgrounds, dog parks, and miles of nature trails. It’s a place where neighbors connect, families grow, and memories are made. Being part of something meaningful is exactly why I love this industry.

Are you involved in any professional organizations, groups, or initiatives through Alliant? If so, what have you gained from those experiences?
I regularly attend Northeast Florida Builders Association (NEFBA) events throughout the year, which has been a great way to connect with peeps in our industry. These events have shown me that many of the challenges we face are shared across the board, and they’ve given me valuable opportunities to exchange ideas and solutions. It’s rewarding to reaffirm that our experiences are common and learn proactive ways to address setbacks before they become roadblocks.
How has Alliant supported your professional growth or helped you reach your goals?
Since moving here, I’ve experienced professional growth thanks to Alliant and the support of my manager, Curt Wimpée. Regular check-ins, clear and realistic goals, and a genuine focus on my well-being have all played a part in my success. It’s that balance of guidance and care that has made Alliant such a great place for me to flourish.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in this industry?
Civil engineering is a wide-ranging profession—it’s important to figure out what excites you, and what doesn’t. In land development, especially, you’ll find yourself wearing many different hats in a single day. As you grow in your career and gain expertise in certain tasks, the work will start to feel more intuitive. The interesting part of being a Professional Engineer is that the more you learn, the more you realize there’s still so much to master. That cycle of growth and redefinition is what keeps this career both challenging and rewarding.
If you had to choose, what has been your favorite alliant event?
If I had to pick, I’d say the annual Golf Event at our Minneapolis office was a highlight. It was awesome to finally meet some of my teammates that I have only connected with on Teams. Alliant really puts an emphasis on building real friendships at work, and events like that make it easy to connect beyond the screen. Good people, good vibes, and a nice excuse to sneak in some swings.
What are some things you are passionate about outside of work/interested in?
I love traveling and exploring new cultures, cuisines, and traditions. It’s always exciting to see the world through a different lens. Staying active is important to me as well, and I play soccer every week. I’m also a fan of a good, long board game, especially the kind that lasts two hours or more. We have quite the collection at home.
What do you think sets Alliant apart as a place to build your career?
Alliant is a great place to work because it truly feels like everyone, from the CEO to the interns, cares about your well-being and your career growth.
The ESOP is an incredible benefit for providing additional compensation, but also creating a shared sense of investment and pride in where we work. The effort you put in is recognized by your managers, and you can see the direct impact it has on Alliant’s overall success.
