Description

This $27 million project involved constructing a new unbonded concrete overlay over the eastbound and westbound lanes of TH 60, including three interchanges, from west of St. James, MN to TH 15. The project also included concrete pavement rehabilitation on CSAH 12 and bridge rehabilitation to the bridges at the TH 4 / TH 30 / CSAH 27 interchange with TH 60, the CSAH 12 interchange with TH 60, and a large diameter triple cell round bridge culvert crossing TH 60.

Project specifics included constructing 13.1 miles of unbonded overlay, shoulder reclamation and bituminous shoulder overlay, replacement or lengthening of existing culverts, bridge rehabilitation, plate beam guardrail installation, a hydraulic study to verify that the increased height of the roadway would not adversely affect flooding, wetland impact minimization, and profile transitions to maintain existing bridge clearances. Alliant helped reduce grading impacts by designing a 3' inside shoulder instead of a 4' inside shoulder. Since providing access to the community of St. James was critical at all times, Alliant staged the project construction at three interchanges.

Alliant's approach and ability to communicate regularly with MnDOT ensured this project was completed on its aggressive schedule of six months.
