Alliant teamed with Metro Transit to analyze the traffic impacts of the proposed METRO B Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) station locations and explored the benefits of how bus priority treatments could enhance traffic flow.
The proposed transit line replaces Route 21—Metro Transit’s busiest route—transforming a 12-mile corridor through Minneapolis and St. Paul. Spanning from the Hennepin County/Minneapolis border of France Avenue (west terminus) to Union Depot in St. Paul (east terminus), the B Line navigates some of the Twin Cities’ most congested streets. To ensure seamless integration, Alliant developed an analysis that included a 77-intersection VISSIM model that accurately modeled transit operations. Additionally, Alliant collaborated with Metro Transit to develop B Line and local service ridership projections to utilize in the analysis. Our evaluation pinpointed optimal BRT locations, enhancing mobility and improving transit services, bringing better efficiency to Minnesota’s busiest transit corridor.
